Gerald Tarisai Mlambo
Gerald Tarisai Mlambo was born in Chinhoyi,
Zimbabwe in 1976. A physiotherapist by
profession he graduated from the University of
Zimbabwe in 1998 and worked around Zimbabwe
until the deepening economic crisis in the country
dictated a move to Lilongwe, Malawi in 2007. His
first attempts at writing started in Malawi at this
time, a difficult affair without any creative writing
training. He perseveres however and hopes to write
professionally in future (despite short stories that
haven’t got beyond the first two paragraphs for
years and nursery rhymes that still don’t impress
his three year old.He is currently living with family
in Ongwediva, a beautiful little northen Namibian
town which he believes could be heaven if someone
gave him control of the thermostat.
Love’s haemophiliac
Bruised once,
Bruised twice,
Bruised often.
My wounds still open
so cringe from your verbal touch
My lesson learnt.
Time.
The essence that heals all.
Dare I take a measure
and let it at my soul
till I bow down to this divine pressure
and forgive all
Forgave once
Forgave twice
Forgave often
So closed wounds again are ripped open,
At reason’s fringe I totter
Lessons learnt haemorrhaging through
A
huge
drop
to the depths of despair
Traffic Jam [i]
Jam-packed within us
Caffeine-stocked daydreams taken in by the pot
Fuelling this life’s addicts’ violent rage
To take this dawn
Revved up with impatient disregard
Hastily combusted fumes fill the air
A cloud of unfulfilled dreams longings
Choking us
Provoking tears
Consequent sorrows of things unrealised
I watched it
In embarrassed complicity
The metallic pelvic thrusts
The violent rape of this beautiful day
I watched
And was slow to move
I watched it
Till the deed was done
I watched and did not move
